Re: Myke's Pizza inside of Cider Corps - Mesa

I think Myke's peach pizza is the perhaps the strongest counterpoint to the "fruit doesn't belong on pizza" trope I've ever tasted.

Maaaaan, sad I missed that gyoza pizza though. Reminds me a little of the (ancient history here) Peking duck pizza they had at CPK waaaaaaaaay back in the early '90s.

Re: Valentine

Well, by all public accounts, leaving was her choice, though it sounds like the precise timing was not her preference.

I'm sure she won't have a difficult time finding whatever gig she wants, provided she isn't also pulling a Donny. But it *is* pretty remarkable/depressing that a place that was on ...

Sadly, in a bit of unfortunate timing, it looks like she's going to be hitting them for somebody else :-/

Kid Sister - Tip Top Tipples and Charming Eats

I've been banging this drum for a while now, but Kid Sister continues to be one of my favorite additions to the scene over the past few years.

It is an excellent wine bar with a really curious and funky selection of natural wines, not to mention a whole bunch of other offbeat and unconventional ...

Noble Eatery — Sandwiches, Salads and Stellar Bread

No thread on Noble Eatery yet, so I figure it's time to get one started.

I popped in for a quick lunch with Kid #1 today, and managed to tear myself away from the Italian to try the special of the week:

Re: Valentine

Sooooooo, since this place has been a tomb, we've not had a chance to discuss the end of the Hawk era at Valentine.

No need to rehash the wailing and the gnashing of teeth, but Nico is a damn fine chef in his own right and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he's doing over there. Anybody ...

Re: Durant's

I am... not as enthused by the Mastros as most of Phoenix, but I actually think this might be the perfect match. If they can resist the urge to change up the menu too much and simply execute those Durant's classics well , that's all it would take to make that place a premiere destination.

That ...

Re: All Pierogi Kitchen - Killer Ukrainian in Mesa

This is how I want all my compact salads served from now on. In a tall rocks glass. Keeps it out of the rest of my food and I'm not chasing a tomato around my plate with a fork.

My family is so in love with "Salad in a Cup" that I now find myself making it at home for them — complete with two ...

Hush Public House — Still Killing it in Scottsdale

I suppose if you want to get technical about it, the west side of Scottsdale Road at that point is Phoenix, but it's served by the Scottsdale post office so it has a Scottsdale mailing address. We spent a good 2-3 hours on this one day at the paper. Honestly, I still don't know what to call it ...

Re: Sashimi sources?

One thing to bear in mind is that “sushi grade” isn’t really a thing. There’s no inspection authority or rules or grading standard or anything like that for fish to be used for sushi and sashimi.

But if you’re going to go raw for prep at home, really the best thing you can do is buy from somebody ...
