Man, it's been a really long time since I've been to Beckett's Table and I forget about how good that place is. Not just because of the chocolate-covered bacon s'more's either... :)

We had a lovely, laid-back dinner there last night with some old friends we hadn't seen in a while so it was all full circle. Justin must have seen my reservation in the book and he sent out a plate of their deviled eggs as a starter. I don't remember what the description was but I've never had a bad deviled egg here. I know it's been a while but they were always pretty creative.

We shared the butternut squash hummus and lavash appetizer as well. I love when people spice up some hummus. This was really nice. The mole was a fine addition to the creamy chickpeas. And the crispy fried chickpeas with the pickled onion was such a nice contrast. I don't disagree with the crispy lavash they serve it with, but if I had a fresh pita with this I'd be very very happy.

The ladies ordered barramundi and our other companion ordered the short rib. All solid dishes. The girls did say that there was maybe one ingredient too many on their fish dish but it's splitting hairs. I had the beef bourguignon shepherds pie and it was pure comfort. I loved that the veggies are cooked perfectly. They still had a little bite to them. They were still cooked, but the dish wasn't just a pile of mush. It reheated very nicely for lunch today.

And of course, we had to have an order of the chocolate-dipped bacon s'mores. It was a little more sweet than I remember but I still left the restaurant like a happy pig.

I don't live anywhere close, so I'll never be a regular but if I did that beef would be the bain of my cardiologist.
