Not the same thing, but Mambo's Dominican Kitchen has an incredible pollo guisado, although not in stew form. It's at the corner of Arizona avenue and Warner. Attached pic, not mine, but from Yelp. Had it a couple of years ago and it was braised, perfectly seasoned and just fell off the bone.
